St. Jude Memphis Marathon
Today was another great one! The start was none too cool, but there was still a great crowd there at 6am. Lots of great friends from college, the race director was out to get us started, and some folks from Memphis Track Club and Fleet Feet kindly led us through the whole course! I started out with probably 15 or 20 runners and people peeled away as the miles went by, but a Memphis local Ben held out all the way to the end, with just a few short breaks in the back of the truck. Vinh also cruised strong for the last 20 miles or so. Friends Pat, Mike, Chase, Jonathan, and maybe a few others ran with me on and off throughout the day and others came out to cheer. It was fun being back in Memphis, where I went to school at Rhodes College and seeing the familiar sites and running familiar streets. The miles just clicked off and before I knew it we were back at the finish at Autozone Park and we were even able to get in the back gate to finish on the baseball field as the actual course does. After the usual routine, we had an amazing lunch with a big group of friends for some nice Memphis BBQ. Feeling full and happy, we hit the road for Little Rock. We were slowed down a good bit by traffic, but made it hear safely. With a crazy storm going on outside right now, I'm looking forward to the promise of cooler temps tomorrow morning. Thank you all for your continued support and prayers! I can count the ones left on one hand now!

Sam & Crew,
You are almost home. I talked to Richard tonight and plan to be in the Bay to welcome you all back. It was really hot today in Jackson I saw 101 on the car temp gauge. I hope it cools off for you as you make the loop down.

See you soon,
Dick & Judy

Great job Sam. It was a pleasure to lead you around the St Jude Marathon course(in my truck of course). With that 'fluid running form' I saw in my mirror from the start to the finish, it is clear that you have the talent(and a great support team)to pull off such a remarkable feat. Congratulations on your success and good luck on future running endeavers.-Rob Hunter, VP Memphis Runners TC

Sam,

Tulsa's my home town. Enjoy Riverside Drive. I drove it every Sunday to church downtown as a kid. Your run will be a sanctifying event. May we all walk with such faithfulness and courage, trusting in the Maker and Redeemer to see the fruit at the end.

Sam,
What an awesome experience it was to be able to watch you run your 46th marathon in 46 days! You have definitely left your mark in history and what a thrill to be a witness to that! While watching you run those last 5 miles, I'll always remember the calm but determined look on your face as you seemed to move with such ease up North Parkway, then turning south and then east to make your way to Auto Zone Park. Definitely something I'll always remember and treasure as having been there!....and to top it all off, you and your family and support crew are all such a nice group of people. I enjoyed getting to talk to all of you. Thanks for choosing Memphis and the St. Jude Course for your 46th!
